Florida beach tops list in shark attacks

Forbes magazine says New Smyrna Beach tops the list in shark attacks last year, with 17.

STATE (Bay News 9) -- Forbes magazine has included Florida in its list of what it calls "the world's most dangerous beaches."

It says New Smyrna Beach in Volusia County, Florida tops the list in shark attacks last year, with 17.

According to a shark research program at the University of Florida, there were only 112 incidents worldwide of sharks biting humans last year.

Only one of the attacks resulted in death--most were minor bites.
