SARASOTA COUNTY (Bay News 9)--Vandals in Sarasota left their mark on political signs and a building late Tuesday night.
Carolyn Mason, a Republican running for County Commission, discovered the word 'Obama,' spray painted on her campaign sign.
"It's a very cowardly thing to do to deface them," she said.
Only signs of Republican candidates were vandalized, and the Republican headquarters in Sarasota also was a target. 'Obama' was written on the freshly painted wall of the building.
Although political parties are not known to agree on many issues, both the Republican and the Democratic parties in Sarasota agree that vandalism is the wrong way to support candidates.
That's why the two parties are offering a joint reward for the arrest of the political vandals.
Democratic Supervisor of Elections candidate Barry Sullivan, said, "If you really want to support a candidate, support them, knock on doors, hand out their literature, don't deface opponents signs or anything like that, it doesn't do any good."
Florida Gov. Charlie Crist responds to backlash from his own party, corruption in politics, critics who say he backtracked on supporting the federal stimulus, and much more. It's all Sunday on Political Connections at 11 a.m. and 8 p.m.
