MANATEE COUNTY (Bay News 9) -- Manatee County leaders are coming up with ways to improve the county's main public beach.
The county, along with the city of Holmes Beach, are developing plans for the beach, including a new bus trolley shelter that can withstand a Category 3 hurricane.
In addition, leaders are planning to install a system of sidewalks that lead to the beach from the shelters, the parking lot and the gift shop. Turtle-friendly lighting and new landscaping are on the slate, as are wider parking spaces that will be able to accommodate vans.
Officials expect the project to be completed by December, as long as permitting does not become an issue.
