BAY AREA (Bay News 9) -- Many Bay area residents woke up to record lows this morning.
The last time Tampa residents had seen temperatures this low on Oct. 19 was in 1927. Normally, Tampa's average temperature is 67 degrees. Instead, the thermometer has dropped to 48, beating the record low of 51 in 1927.
In St. Petersburg, the average low on this day is 69 degrees, but people on that side of the Bay woke up to 55 degrees, just a degree warmer than the coldest day, also recorded in 1927.
Brooksville, Lakeland and Brandon were even cooler, with temperatures dipping into the 40s. Lakeland broke a 54-year-old record, with the mercury reaching only 45 degrees.
The cold air won't last long, though. Temperatures are supposed to return to the 70s by mid-day, and will be back to the 80s by the end of the week.
