HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY (Bay News 9) -- Sunday marks the 27th anniversary since a Tampa girl disappeared while walking to her father's house from school.
Jennifer Marteliz was seven at the time.
She would become the first missing child whose face appeared on a milk carton.
Tampa police and the FBI investigated, but no sign was ever found.
"The first 5 years was constant," said Marteliz' mother, Kathy Longo. "We went on thousands of leads, all the way from Texas to Canada to New York. I mean, all the leads we found. But it always ended up not being Jennifer."
Longo has been conducting her own investigation.
"My existence is to stay alive so I can see her," Longo said. "My life stopped when Jennifer became missing. There's been no life but to find Jennifer."
