PASCO COUNTY (Bay News 9) -- More than 500 people sat down for the annual Thanksgiving feast at the First Assembly of God in New Port Richey.
Many of the people who gathered said they were there celebrate why they are thankful, even though they are dealing with the bad economy and the job loss.
Charlie, who declined to give his last name, lives in a tent in the woods. He said that he has a lot to be thankful for.
"I'm thankful I at least got a tent over my head, a cat that loves me and people like this that care enough to share the bounty of the Lord with us," he said.
Norma Iris Rivera, who also took part in the dinner, said she is also grateful for so many things despite her personal troubles.
"We have to thank God for our living our life and for this bread," she said.
About 250 volunteers from the Volunteer Way and IHOP served food and helped guests with anything they needed to make their day a special one.
Children who attended also had the chance to get their faces painted, play games and watch clowns.
