Season seven winner David Cook chats with Virginia post-Thanksgiving.

PINELLAS COUNTY (Bay News 9) -- How did season seven American Idol winner David Cook spend his Thanksgiving holiday?

By eating half of a pumpkin pie.

That's what the singer-songwriter told Tampa Bay On Demand's Virginia Johnson when she received the chance to interview him Friday afternoon.

Backstage at the Mahaffey Theater a few hours before his show, Cook discussed his rise to fame and his self-titled album "David Cook."

He also shared what fans could expect to hear at the show -- selections from the record, covers, and songs from his pre-Idol debut.

"Try to crack jokes, most of them aren't funny," said Cook. "Really, just for us. It's about engaging the audience past just a musical level. We want to feel like they got much more for their money."
