PINELLAS COUNTY (Bay News 9) -- A group in Seminole is putting a new twist on the holiday angel tree.
It's called "Elves for Elders."
Two-hundred names of senior citizens are hanging on several Christmas trees on local Bealls stores.
People can choose one of the names, and donate much-needed items to older people who have no family members to help them.
Shelly Ballard with the Elves for Elders program says that many of them are wards of the state.
"It's very important for these people because they really don't have anything," said Ballard. "Not just the luxuries, but they don't have the necessities. They ask for simple things like underwear
and nightgowns, and a lot ask for sweaters because it's cold a lot of times in nursing homes."
Donations will be accepted until December 8, so if you're in the giving spirit this holiday season, swing by Bealls and pick out a name.
Drop-off locations for the gifts are also inside the Seminole Mall.
