PINELLAS COUNTY (Bay News 9) -- Three people died in two separate motorcycle accidents in Pinellas County late Thursday and early Friday.
According to the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office, Daryl Miles, 44, of Dunedin was at the intersection of Curlew and Fisher Roads about 6:45 a.m. Friday when he collided with a pickup truck being driven by 16-year-old Jordan Francis, also of Dunedin.
Miles died in the crash.
The sheriff's office said Miles was traveling eastbound on Curlew road approaching the intersection of Fisher Road. Deputies say the motorcycle was in the curb lane and switched to the median lane just before entering the intersection.
Francis' pickup was making a left turn from northbound Fisher Road onto westbound Curlew when the motorcycle collided with the front end of the pickup truck, ejecting Miles from the motorcycle. He was not wearing a helmet.
Miles was taken to Mease Countryside Hospital and pronounced dead about 7:30 a.m.
Francis and his 15-year-old sister, Brenda Francis, a passenger in the pickup, were taken to Mease Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
A third vehicle, driven by 36-year-old Kerry Sullivan, which was headed westbound on Curlew Road, was struck by debris from the crash, causing minor damage to the vehicle. Sullivan was not injured.
Investigators said alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash.
On Thursday, two people died in a motorcycle crash in Clearwater.
The accident happened just after 8:30 p.m. on Montclair Road when the driver failed to negotiate a curve, lost control of the motorcycle and went off the road, according to authorities.
Police identified the driver as Daniel B. Rivers, 34, of Clearwater. His passenger was 32-year-old Starr Knotek, of Clearwater. Both were thrown from the bike.
Authorities said Knotek died at the scene while Rivers was transported to the Mease Dunedin Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
In addition to excessive speed, alcohol is being investigated as a contributing factor in the crash.
