Rescue crews work to free the boy, who was seriously injured in the crash.

PINELLAS COUNTY (Bay News 9) -- A seven-year-old boy is fighting for his life, after a serious crash in Clearwater.

Police say the SUV the boy was riding in Saturday night ran a red light and slammed into a pick-up truck.

It happened on Cleveland Street at Belcher around 10 p.m.

Investigators say the boy was not in a seat -- but in the cargo area of the SUV, and was ejected from the vehicle.

According to reports, the boy ended up pinned between a light pole and a third car involved in the accident.

Once rescue crews were able to free him, he was airlifted to Bayfront Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.
