PINELLAS COUNTY (Bay News 9) -- St. Petersburg is abuzz with activity thanks to the big bowl game.

There are many events planned downtown all day on Saturday in honor of the Beef O'Brady's St. Petersburg Bowl, when Big East titleholder Rutgers takes on Conference USA's champ University of Central Florida at Tropicana Field.

A free shuttle service will also be operating every 10 minutes with stops on Second Street between Central Avenue & First Avenue South (under the pedestrian bridge connecting the Bank of America Tower and South Core garage).

It will run from 6 p.m. to an hour after the game ends.

Motorists may park in the South Core garage by entering from 1st Avenue South between 1st and 2nd Streets and at 16th Street just south of 3rd Avenue South.

Fans are encouraged to make a day of the game, by attending pre-game holiday activities, sightseeing or shopping.

Retail shops and restaurants will be open for business and holiday festivities are scheduled at several downtown museums and along the waterfront.

Stadium parking lots open at 2 p.m. to accommodate early-birds and fans participating in the Tailgate Extravaganza in Lot 7-A.

Vehicle parking costs $15, while RV parking available in Lot 8 costs $25.

Be sure to catch Bright House Sports Network cable channel 47's live pregame show live at Tropicana Field tonight at 7:30 p.m.
