Standoff with child porn suspect ends peacefully

CITRUS COUNTY (Bay News 9) -- A standoff in Crystal River ended peacefully Saturday.

Citrus County Sheriff's Office hostage and emergency response teams were called out to a home on the 5500 block of West Pine Circle around 2 p.m. Saturday after they received reports of a subject with a gun.

Officials say 39-year-old Robert Gallagher was involved in an investigation out of Pinellas County, when his computer was seized on child pornography allegations.

He reportedly went to his mother's home in Crystal River at around 9 a.m.

He showed a handgun to his mother. 

Investigators say that his mother made it out of the house safely and was not held in the home.

Nearby homes were evacuated.

Authorities say Gallagher was taken into custody for evaluation. He is not under arrest.
