CITRUS COUNTY (Bay News 9) -- Residents in Crystal River say one of their parks is no longer a fun place to go.
In fact, city officials say Yeomans Park has become a place for people to meet and have sex, and they want to change that.
"You just drive by it," said resident Wes Derry. "It's just something you drive by and look at and say hmm."
The plan is to change the park into a dog park.
"You'd have the shady characters leaving and an actual use for that land, and plus, a place for your dogs to go," Derry said. "Three good things all at once."
The city took ownership of the land in 1992. Since then, things have gone down hill.
Gloria Peeler also lives near the park and says she'd walk her two dogs there all the time if she felt safe.
"I look at it and think what a nice place it could be," Peeler said. "It really could be nice."
Crystal River city officials are expected to take a final vote on this issue in January.
City officials say if they go ahead with the plan the park would be set up for dogs. That would go on for one year but only as a trial period.
If they see that becoming a success, it would stay a dog park permanently.
