PINELLAS COUNTY (Bay News 9) -- St. Petersburg's mayor-elect has promised to address the issue of homelessness in the city.
According to Bay News 9's partner paper, the St. Petersburg Times, Bill Foster has said the city is too welcoming to the homeless, and that it has created a growing need that agencies are unable to keep up with.
Foster said he will take a "caring and compassionate approach," and that he will work with local shelters to help them provide more facilities for homeless people. He also said he will strengthen and enforce current panhandling laws.
