PINELLAS COUNTY (Bay News 9) -- The city of Largo has joined the list of those opposed to offshore drilling near Florida's coast.
According to Bay News 9's partner paper, the St. Petersburg Times, Largo city leaders have approved a resolution that opposes drilling within three miles of the coast.
Several other area cities, including St. Petersburg, and Pinellas County itself have passed similar resolutions.
Officials are worried about the effects on the environment and tourism.
The effort that would have allowed the drilling did not make it out of Legislature last session, but lobbyists are working hard to get the ban overturned.
