HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY (Bay News 9) -- The play Wonderland: Alice's New Musical Adventure at Tampa's David A Straz, Jr. Center for the Performing Arts brought $8.1 million to the local economy, according to the Americans for the Arts & Economic Prosperity III Calculator.
More than 700 full and part-time jobs were impacted by the play. Wonderland is the first program developed at the Straz Center's Broadway Genesis Project.
Teams of designers, musicians, performers and other artists came to Tampa in October to work on the production. The Calculator estimates they, and their friends and families, booked more than 10,000 room nights in hotels, generating $1.4 million.
In addition, workers constructed sets, costumes and props in the area.
Performances of Wonderland continue through January 3rd at the Straz Center.
