But parts of the Bay area saw strong winds (60 mph gusts in some areas), heavy rain and lightning.
The storms toppled trees in St. Petersburg, knocked out power in Bradenton and caused some flooding in the Shore Acres area of St. Petersburg. No injuries were reported.
Almost an inch of rain was reported in Tampa, St. Petersburg, Pasco County and Hernando County.
A half of an inch was recorded in Citrus County and a full inch of rain fell in parts of Manatee County.
"Some areas will still have some lingering rain today,' said Bay News 9 meteorologist Juli Marquez. "The farther north and west you go, the dryer it will be this morning.
"But heavy rains will return Friday and Saturday.'
By 4 a.m., the rains were sweeping through the southeastern Polk County areas of Frostproof and Lake Wales.
Some coastal flooding was expected, but little actually occurred.
The rain will clear out Thursday morning, and the rest of the day will be clear.
However, two more lows will reach the Bay area Friday and Saturday, bringing more rain.
Temperatures will drop, with highs in the 60s Friday and Saturday and lows in the 50s.
A high surf advisory remains in effect for today until 4 p.m.
