BAY AREA (Bay News 9) -- Areas of Pasco County suffered damage to homes as a result of the heavy thunderstorms Tuesday.
A tornado watch, which earlier covered the entire Tampa Bay area, was issued as strong thunderstorms began to sweep across the area Tuesday morning.
A variety of thunderstorm warnings and watches, along with a flood advisory were issued for various counties during the morning.
According to Bay News 9 chief meteorologist Mike Clay, the storms swept across the area at about 8:30 a.m. ahead of a cold front.
Two confirmed tornadoes touched down, one in Wesley Chapel and another in Trinity.
In Trinity, roofs were ripped off homes, trees were split in two and patio enclosures were tossed around.
Mike Leone was at work at the time.
"When I looked up you see this big swirl, this big white cloud 50 to 75 feet wide just swirling, and coming across," Leone said.
Lil Hanson was at home.
"The next thing we knew the sky turned dark, something we've never seen, then we heard the sound," Hanson said.
Tony Virgadamo was also home.
"Everything started flying all over the place," Virgadamo said.
No one was injured.
According to Pasco County emergency services, 24 homes on Treig Lane in Wesley Chapel sustained roof damage as a result of the storm.
Janet McGuire with the Pasco County Red Cross said the agency is working with emergency management to help people across the county.
In addition, power lines and traffic lights were down throughout Pinellas County.
However, Tom Iovino, the Emergency Operations Manager for Pinellas County, said there has been little damage in Pinellas County.
