POLK COUNTY (Bay News 9) -- A local man is living out his dream of directing because of an unexpected life turn.
Kyle Brown is directing an independent film, called "Unexpecting."
"Basically it's a hometown boy left years ago to go out to Hollywood to be the next big thing, and he comes back seven years later," Brown said.
The main character returns to a child and life he didn't know existed.
Brown wrote the script last year. He decided to turn it into a full-length film after a surprise layoff at his job as a warehouse manager.
"Instead of 'oh, you know, what am I going to do?' I decided to chance it," he said.
So, the lifelong movie fan read up on movie making. Then, he bought a camera and found a local crew and cast.
"Every actor has donated their time," Brown said. "Every artist that's on the soundtrack has donated their time."
All the scenes will be shot on location in Polk County.
It's a risky venture his entire cast and crew believes will pay off.
"If you don't have dreams, you don't have anything as far as I'm concerned," Brown said. "And I tried to turn something negative into a positive."
Brown plans to enter "Unexpecting" in film festivals by the end of the year.
