PASCO COUNTY (Bay News 9) -- When Denise Anderson decided to test drive a Toyota Sequoia at Sun Toyota in New Port Richey, she didn't expect it to come with an 8-foot 7-inch passenger.
"I looked underneath and I saw how big it was," Anderson said. "And I just start running backwards, and I went to talk to the guy in the back, and I'm like 'you got an alligator under your car over here.' And he's like 'no, no, really? No.' I'm like 'yea, you have an alligator.'"
The gator moved from the Sequoia and hid out beneath a Toyota Highlander after his encounter with Anderson.
Salesman Mike Chaparro says making a good sale comes with challenges.
"She turned around and said 'there's a gator' and I'm like 'ma'am' she said 'there's a gator under the car' and 'I'm like what,"' Chaparro said. "She just jumped in the air like so animated I couldn't help but almost drop my coffee and laugh."
A crowd of employees and onlookers surrounded the gator for nearly two hours until the trapper arrived.
"One thing I've learned being a salesperson is you gotta spin everything into a positive," Chaparro said. "So, for all you Gator fans out there, Sun Toyota is officially Gator country."
Anderson decided to buy the truck.
"Without the gator for sure," she said.
