BAY NEWS 9 -- Traffic crashes took several lives on Tampa Bay roads over the weekend.
At least five people died in four crashes, including two that the FHP says were alcohol related.
In Tampa, a woman died after the being hit from behind as she waited at a red light. The FHP said the driver who hit her was under the influence of both drugs and alcohol.
In Pasco County, a motorcycle passenger died after the bike hit the back of a vehicle that the FHP said may have run a stop sign. The FHP said the drivers of both vehicles may have been under the influence of alcohol.
In Manatee County, a head-on crash killed two people and sent three others to the hospital.
Also, a toddler died after she was run over by a car in Tampa Saturday and a 5-year-old girl was run over by car in St. Petersburg on Friday. (The story)
Meanwhile, the Associated Press reported that, nationally, highway deaths dropped to a 47-year low in 2008.
