Baseball team members are seen digging around the pitcher's mound.

PINELLAS COUNTY (Bay News 9) -- So far, there appear to be no decapitated snakes in the infield, or the outfield.

Two Pinellas County agencies have been investigating a possible case of animal cruelty at Palm Harbor University High.

According to an e-mail received by Bay News 9, someone told members of the baseball team to cut the head off of a live snake with a shovel on the pitcher's mound at the field, then bury the decapitated animal in the mound behind the rubber.

The act was supposed to rid the team of demons that might be causing its current string of losses and help the team finish the season on a winning streak.

According to the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office, school resource officers said that digging was done around the field and nothing was found. They said at this time the allegations appear to be unfounded.

A school spokeswoman said that "some type of incident took place" and that a person related to the baseball team has been temporarily relieved of their duties, but she could not confirm all the details in the e-mail.
