HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY (Bay News 9) -- Two pet therapy dogs will say "I do" in their own canine way in a wedding ceremony Thursday at Tampa General Hospital.
"Chicklet", the female Chihuahua mix, and "Blake", the male American Field Lab, have delighted pediatric patients each Thursday morning for years.
Two other pet therapy dogs, Samantha and Simba, golden retrievers, will serve as "bridedogs". And Blaze, the retired greyhound, will do the honors as "best dog".
A TGH employee with a notary license will officiate the ceremony. As for the wedding cake, another TGH volunteer is making one out of Frosty Paws, a canine ice cream.
Pam Dickens, a veterinary technician at Animal Care Center of New Port Richey, adopted Chicklet when she was dropped off to be euthanized because she was born with deformed front paws.
Ruth Cowan adopted Blake, who was part of an unwanted litter.
The dogs also visit Moffitt Cancer Center each week after they finish their work at TGH.
