Inspector records showed deplorable conditions at the Just For Kids day care in Tampa.
HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY (Bay News 9) -- A controversial Tampa daycare has been closed for the rest of the summer.

The Just For Kids Daycare on Busch Boulevard in Tampa is officially closed. A Hillsborough County judge signed a request from the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office for a temporary injunction.

That will halt the daycare from continuing to care for children for at least 90 days.

Meanwhile, parents who were still using the daycare will have to make other arrangements.

The daycare and its owner, Dorothy Ann Sampson-Monroe had been in the spotlight recently since she was arrested earlier this month on four counts of child abuse.

Police said she hit at least four children on the buttocks and legs, and at least two in the face.

On June 19, the daycare's license was revoked but the center continued accepting kids, charging no fees at that time.

Previous visits to the center and its owner's criminal history led to the latest shut down.

Dorothy Sampson-Monroe was arrested and charged with four counts of child abuse.

Last month, inspectors found nails protruding from boards on the playground, and a thermostat that read 91 degrees in the area where infants slept.

The center was without electricity when inspectors visited on May 12.

Also, Sampson-Monroe has been arrested 16 times in the past, including one conviction on felony drug charges in 1991.
