BAY AREA (Bay News 9) -- People are rallying to save the Friendship Trail Bridge.
Structural problems shut down the pedestrian bridge, which spans across Tampa Bay from St. Petersburg to Tampa, a few months ago.
According to Bay News 9's partner paper, the St. Petersburg Times, members of the Friendship Trail Corporation want county commissioners to go after federal funding to fix the bridge.
Engineers put the repair cost at $15 million, but even that work would only save the bridge for another 10 years.
The Friendship Trail group has set up two meetings for the public. The first meeting is Tuesday at 4 p.m. at the Weedon Island Preserve Education Center in St. Petersburg.
The second meeting is on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the Jan K. Platt Regional Library in Tampa.
