Doctors: link between hot dogs and cancer

Post a comment | E-mail this story | Print  Bookmark and Share

There's nothing like a grilled hot dog . . .

A national organization of doctors says eating hot dogs can lead to cancer.

The Cancer Project, which is based in St. Louis, wants baseball's St. Louis Cardinals to put warning labels at their concession stands informing people of the risks in eating hot dogs.

"It's our mission to educate them on the risks in eating these foods that they've been consuming," said project spokesperson Krista Haynes.

Dietician Marjorie Sawicki said there is a risk from eating processed meats, but believes moderation is the key.

. . . but the Cancer Project says the dogs cause cancer.

"You can still eat a hot dog once a week and still not have a dramatic increase in your risk for cancers," Sawicki said.
