HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY (Bay News 9) -- U.S. Central Command will soon have a new headquarters at MacDill Air Force Base.

The center hosted a groundbreaking ceremony today at the air force base in Tampa.

A new 250,000 square-foot command center will replace the 25-year-old center. The new Centcom building, expected to cost about $60 million, will take about two years to build.

The construction is expected to employ about 300 workers.

The new building will be the command center and control facility to support ongoing operations overseas.
