CITRUS COUNTY (Bay News 9) -- A major project is about to get underway in Citrus County.
Vans will be driving around the streets of Citrus County, taking photographs of every single piece of property in the county. The vehicles have slots built into them that allow cameras to pop out and take photos.
The property appraiser's office wants the photos so it can better assess property values.
"We have a combination of two street views," said Property Appraiser Geoffrey Greene. "We have the aerial photography, then we have the 45-degree from the aerial, and that gives us the ability to see the entire house. This also gives us the ability to pick up a lot of structures that aren't on the tax roll."
The photos will not only be used by the property appraiser's office. Greene also said the pictures will be used by the Citrus County Sheriff's Emergency Management Department.
Officials said they hope to have the project wrapped up in a month, as long as the weather cooperates.
