Bell was arrested early Thursday morning.
Tampa native and former New York Mets and Houston Astros outfielder Derek Bell is facing a felony cocaine possession charge.

While driving his 2005 Ford Excursion, Tampa police said Bell was stopped at 19th Street and East Shadowlawn for a traffic violation Thursday morning at about 3:15. Once stopped, Bell, 37, gave consent to search his vehicle. During the search, officers found a still-warm crack pipe in the back seat of the car.

Bell admitted the crack pipe, which contained cocaine residue, belonged to him. Bell, of Wesley Chapel, was booked into the Hillsborough County Jail. He was later released on $2,500 bond.

A King High graduate, Bell played 11 seasons before retiring during the 2001 season. He had several solid seasons in the late '90s with Houston, including 1998 when he hit 22 home runs with 108 RBIs and batted .314.

He played for five teams, earning a World Series ring in his first full major league season with Toronto in 1992.
