TAMPA - Basking in the afterglow of their first win, the buzz wasn't just about starting rookie QB Josh Freeman; the "creamsicle" orange and white uniforms also made quite an impression.
DE Stylez G. White admitted he wasn't an immediate fan when the uniforms were first unveiled. But after seeing a few of his teammates sporting the throwback colors, he started warming up to old school gear. LB Barrett Ruud considered lobbying the higher ups to wear them again - if that'll help the team continue winning.
CB Elbert Mack couldn't pinpoint if it was the new uniform, new quarterback, new stadium décor - whatever the winning formula was - he called it "swagger", the term popularized by hip hop rapper Jay-Z. The confidence, the extra bounce in the step, the mindset.
In addition to the obvious wardrobe change on the field, off the field head coach Raheem Morris instituted a directive of his own: business attire. No more jeans. Players are to wear slacks and button ups. Josh Freeman appeared in his post-game press conference sweating through his dapper suit.
Does the clothes make the man? Morris smirked at that notion, shaking his head when asked about "swagger" and simply said it was about having "presence".
