Regular playtime for kids has dropped dramatically. Watch the reportWatch Video

The average American kid spends about 13 minutes a week playing outside.  This amount has decreased over the years and could lead to increased obesity, anxiety and depression.

According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, regular playtime and relaxation time has dropped 25 percent for kids.

Kids learn the importance of friends and how to solve problems during playtime.  But 40 percent of elementary schools have shortened or deleted recess altogether.  Just a few minutes a day can make a difference, helping with critical thinking skills and more.

TIPS:

  • Turn off the TV
  • Make play dates with children their own age
  • Avoid too many toys
  • Watch out for over-scheduling
  • Explore the great outdoors
