The UCF Knights are coming off one of the nation’s biggest turnarounds last year -  Scott Frost taking a winless team in 2015 to a bowl appearance and a 6-7 record last year. The team talked with the media on Wednesday as it prepares to up the ante in Frost's second year at the helm.

“Media day is just a day everybody wants to know what’s been going on in camp and everybody wants to know how’s the team been doing,” junior wide receiver TreQuan Smith explained.

Frost didn't waste time addressing the starting quarterback question.

“McKenzie (Milton) has clearly been the best guy, he’s earned the right to be our guy at this point in camp,” said Frost during the news conference. “He’s hitting a lot of the easy throws that he missed last year. I think his mechanics are improved, his familiarity of the offense has improved.”

With a year under his belt, the sophomore from Hawaii is ready to lead the pack of Knights.

“Everybody wants to play but the quarterback is the position where there is only one spot and I am glad Coach Frost is giving me the opportunity,” Milton said of the honor.

One thing that is pretty evident is Milton’s comfort with his receivers - he made a point to build some friendships this offseason.

“There is more trust when you get to know someone off the field,” Smith said. “So when you are on the field (if you have) trust you can probably play through anything.”

For Milton and receiver Adrian Killins the friendship spawned last season.

“We came in both as true freshman playing on the field, it’s what we expected,” Killins said. “Both of us wanting to play early and we got that shot.”

Now the two return to the field with valuable experience.

As for expectations for this season, this team will not be satisfied with matching last year’s success.

“As long as I am here we are going to measure success as being better than we were yesterday,” Frost explained. “If we keep ascending and improving then the wins will take care of themselves.”

Frost hopes to find a vocal leader on offense, an area the team struggled with last year with so many young guys on the roster. The Knights will have about two weeks to find that leader as their season opener is scheduled for August 31 against FIU at Spectrum Stadium.
