The St. Petersburg mayoral election is approaching fast and candidates Rick Kriseman and incumbent Bill Foster are making sure they are seen and heard.

Both Kriseman and Mayor Foster spent their Saturday making appearances around the city and calls to last minute voters.

Foster took the stage Saturday afternoon at the St. Petersburg International Folk Fair. He said he’s confident he’ll be leading the city again after votes are cast Tuesday.

“We feel good, we feel confident," said Foster. "We have had a lot of support from the community. We had a lot of people working this morning."

Kriseman stopped by the Saturday Morning Market where he took pictures and shook hands with residents.

“The community is craving leadership," said Kriseman. "They want someone who can be decisive on the issues but also willing to listen to the needs of the community, learn from that and take the final step to lead.”

Both candidates want to remind residents how important their vote is.

"This election in critical so we've got to get people out to vote, to participate in the system and continue the progress we have under the old administration to move the city forward," said Kriseman.

Foster says he believes the biggest issue on voters’ minds is making sure St. Petersburg is on the right track.

“St. Pete is rockin,’ downtown is thriving, our neighborhoods are doing well," said Foster. "So that’s what people are interested in.  Are you creating jobs, have we turned the economy around, and how are you going to keep that momentum that you’ve built coming through the recession.”

The mayor says he’ll spend the rest of the weekend making calls along with the rest of his campaign volunteers and will be knocking on doors again Monday as the countdown to Tuesday’s election continues.
