“We want the design process to be a collaborative effort,” said THEA CEO Joe Waggoner. “Both designs would make for superb additions to the Selmon Extension, but we want the public to pick the design that best connects with them.”

In addition to receiving information on pier design options and the “Vote for Your Favorite Pier Design” opportunity, participants of the October 9th VTHM received an update on the Selmon Extension project, construction timeline, outreach and other important information.

Construction of the Selmon Extension is expected to begin in early 2018, with an anticipated operational date in late 2020.

The Selmon Extension is a 1.9-mile toll lane in the median above Gandy Boulevard that will offer a choice for regional travelers: use Gandy Boulevard for local destinations or use the Selmon Extension for a direct connection to the Lee Roy Selmon Expressway, Dale Mabry Highway or the Gandy Bridge.
