Current Brooksville City Council member Natalie Kahler launched her campaign Monday for Hernando County Commissioner for District 4.

  • Natalie Kahler will run against Jeff Holcomb
  • Kahler has been on Brooksville council for three years
  • Commissioners Champion, Dukes endorse Kahler

That seat is currently held by commissioner Jeff Holcomb, who is running for re-election.

Kahler has served on the Brooksville City Council for three years and was chosen to serve as mayor of the city for last year.

She's been in Hernando County for 17 years and has raised her kids here. But she said now she's ready to take the next step to county government and hopes she can bring perspectives from many different cities she lived and worked in throughout the county.

"A lot of people can't make that bridge," she said. "You're either Brooksville or you are Spring Hill, you don't get to do both. And we've had the privilege of being able to do both and understanding both communities, and I think I'm going to be able to bring a different perspective because of that. Because I really have fully immersed myself in both of those communities."

Commissioner Holcomb released a statement Monday afternoon that said: "I welcome Mrs. Kahler to the race and I look forward to highlighting the differences in our voting records."

Commissioner Steve Champion and Commission Chairman Wayne Dukes announced they are endorsing Kahler in this race.
