We're learning more tonight about the man who passed away Nov. 13 after a skydiving accident at Skydive City in Zephryhills.

Friends say 36-year-old Kurt Tracy was fun-loving and full of life.

"He's an outgoing person," Kurt's friend, Carter, said. "Fun. Likes to have fun. Great skydiver."

Kurt was part of a group of 10 experienced divers who went up for a “fun dive” at 13,000 feet on Monday when something went wrong. Carter was not on that dive, but was at Skydive City earlier that day and was shocked to hear what happened.

"It's a really really close family. All skydivers love each other," Carter told us. "Although we don't see eye-to-eye on some views, we still put our trust in one another up in the sky, so there's got to be some sort of bond."

Carter said most divers wear cameras, not just to capture video to remember the dive, but also to have video evidence when something goes wrong. He said Kurt wasn't wearing a camera on his last dive, so until the investigation is complete, they won't know exactly what happened.

On Monday, the President of Skydive City told us there were no signs something was wrong and cameras worn by other divers in the group barely showed Kurt.

Carter said not knowing exactly what happened to this experienced diver makes the loss that much more difficult.

"All around great guy," Carter said. "He's fun to be around. Like to have fun. Enjoy life."

Carter said he and several other divers at Skydive City have planned a memorial dive to honor Kurt on Friday and Saturday.
