Most of the residents have never gotten to perform in public before. That includes Brian Best on guitar. He can’t wait to perform and neither can his mom.

“He’s a ham,” said Karen Best. “So I get to stand up and watch him be a ham on stage and do what he loves to do. So I am excited.”

The staff and parents have all pitched in on the project, even making all the hand-made costumes.

“They are super excited,” said Best. “They can hardly get through a practice. We need to remind them that they are not the audience. They don’t need to clap. They clap for themselves every time.”

Toytown U.S.A. will allow residents to show just how special their special needs community is.

“Toytown is a lot like what we want to be and that is Mayberry. That we kind of wanted to be small town America and I think our community represents that,” said Best.

The residents will perform Toytown U.S.A. on Tuesday, November 28th at First United Methodist Church in Lakeland.
