One person was seriously injured in a two-vehicle crash on Hwy 27 near Lucerne Park Road Saturday morning.

The crash occurred around 6 a.m. on southbound Hwy 27.

According to deputies, a Buick Sedan hit the rear of a Mercedes 350.

After the impact, deputies said the Buick went across the median, over northbound Hwy 27, and into a small body of water on the east side of Hwy 27.

The driver, Hakeem McGhee, 26, was pulled from the vehicle in the water and flown to Lakeland Regional Health with critical injuries.

The driver of the Mercedes, Paris Allen, 25, was not injured in the crash.

Northbound and southbound lanes of Hwy 27 were closed for several Saturday morning during the investigation. Traffic is now back open.

Deputies said speed was likely a contributing factor in the crash.

The investigation remains ongoing.
