A house and car were destroyed in an early morning fire in Hernando County.

Hernando Fire Rescue was called out to a home on Panorama Street in Brooksville just before 5 a.m.

Crews said a wood frame house was fully involved in fire. They were able to get the fire quickly under control to prevent it from spreading into the nearby wooded area.

Officials said due to the construction of the home and the progress of the fire prior to crew’s arrival, the home is a total loss. A car near the home was also destroyed in the fire.

Officials said the home was unoccupied and appeared to be under renovation. They are trying to contact the owners of the home.

Officials said the cause of the fire appears to be an unattended yard debris burn pile.

The Florida Fire Service will continue to investigate.
