The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal crash involving two cars colliding almost head on in an Inverness intersection.

  • Incident occurred around 5:18 a.m.
  • Steven Ekeli, 48, pronounced dead at scene
  • Daniel Edmondson, 20, seriously injured

Troopers said at around 5:18 a.m. Thursday, Daniel Edmondson, 20, was traveling east on West Main Street approaching the intersection with Seminole Avenue. Edmondson, driving a 1999 Jeep Laredo, reportedly entered the intersection, then drove into the westbound lanes.

Edmondson then collided with Steven Wesley Ekeli, 48, who was traveling west on West Main Street. Ekeli died at the scene from his injuries following the crash.

Troopers indicated that both men were wearing seat belts, and alcohol was not a factor in the crash. Charges are currently pending.

The investigation continues.
