  • Carrie Stanfield stole more than $82,000 from 73-year-old woman
  • Stanfield charged with theft from person 65 years or older

Carrie Stanfield, 36, is accused of stealing from her deceased boyfriend's mother.

Detectives began their investigation in February after the elderly victim reported that she was missing thousands of dollars she believed was stolen by Stanfield.

Due to medical issues, officials said the victim signed over power of attorney to Stanfield and asked that she attend civil proceedings and take care of medical costs on the victim's behalf.

On February 13, the victim was notified that her account was missing more than $82,000.

Detectives learned that Stanfield made dozens of withdrawals and purchases from businesses, including Amazon, Walmart, and Publix. They also recovered payment made by Stanfield to her cellphone carrier, insurance company, and various other service providers.

Stanfield was arrested Wednesday, July 19, and charged with theft from a person 65 years or older. She was released later that day on a $20,000 bond.
