Wednesday was move-in day at Pasco County's newest and only middle/high school.

  • Cypress Creek Middle/High will open Aug. 14
  • School will ease overcrowding at surrounding schools
  • Students, parents, teachers excited to get started

Cypress Creek Middle/High School has been in the making for nearly two years, and it's going to help with the overcrowding at surrounding schools.

In just a few weeks, around 1,600 students will walk into the "Home of the Coyotes."

"It's exciting. The chairs are new, everything to the cabinets is just fresh, and all the technology, it's just really exciting," said teacher Michele Fisher.

All the high school students and most of the middle school students are transfers. That includes Alexis Aponte, who is coming from Wesley Chapel High School.

"It's brand new, it's very nice, I'm excited," said Aponte.

Aponte was one of the many helpers that came out Wednesday to move in the 90 instructional staff members. Her brother, David, is an incoming freshman.

"Very excited, it looks really nice. Teachers are very nice, school's humongous, got a lot working here for me, playing some sports and getting really excited,” David Aponte said.

The school will have three academies: Business, criminal justice and engineering.

"Everybody seems really happy, all the teachers, everybody we've met, and the principals are great,” said parent James Fisher. "Seems like everybody is really upbeat and positive about the move. We're looking forward to it."

The district broke ground on the school in August 2015.

The first day of school is Aug. 14.
