The City of Inverness is offering kids between the ages of 11 and 14 to experience what it's like to be a lifeguard.

Kids can now register for the American Red Cross Junior Lifeguard Camp at Whispering Pines City Park Aquatic Facility.

The camp will be offered on July 24th through July 28th from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The $75 fee must be paid at the time of registration.

The course will teach water safety and introduce students to the duties and responsibilities of a lifeguard. This course will not certify anyone to be a lifeguard, but will build the foundation needed to prepare students for the American Red Cross Lifeguard Course.

In order to participate in the course, children must possess some prerequisite skills, for safety:

  • Candidates must be able to swim 25 yards (one length of the pool) using the front-crawl
  • Candidates must be able to swim to a depth of 10 ft. and retrieve an object
  • Candidates must be able to tread water for 1 minute in a depth of 10 ft.
Participants can register at the Whispering Pines City Park Pool Complex, or call 352-726-1995 for more info.
