City of Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn has donated $1000 of his personal money towards the removal of a Confederate Monument outside the Hillsborough County Courthouse.

Commissioners voted to allow 30 days to raise $140,000 to move the Confederate statute. The money was raised within 24 hours, including donations by the area's professional sports teams.

Mayor Bob Buckhorn stated, “It is not the city’s obligation but it is my moral obligation." Adding, "This monument represents a dark time in America; It’s time for County Commission to stop playing politics with people’s very real emotions and remove this monument immediately.”
