A 69-year-old Bartow man is recovering after being beaten and shot during a robbery early Monday morning.

  • Attack occurred on South Floral Avenue
  • Three men jumped out of car, put gun in man's face
  • Bartow Police still looking for clues

The man and an 88-year-old woman were walking together on South Floral Avenue when the attack took place.

The woman, who didn't want to be identified, said three men jumped out of a car, put a gun in her friend's face and demanded he turn over what he had.

He told them he didn't have anything. "So they knocked him down and they beat him up really bad," she said.

"I think someone should have dropped them in their tracks," said neighbor Paul Cooper. He heard the two shots that were fired and had hoped someone had been there to fire back at the robbers.

"And there should be no court ruling over that," he said.

Bartow Police said they have gotten some tips but nothing definitive yet.
