  • Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office investigating Tuesday incident
  • Culprits made off with $1,500, cell phones
  • Green 2001 Ford Focus was stolen

Carlos Daniel Lopez says he was startled awake around 5:40 a.m. when he heard the glass on his back door smash. Moments later, he says he could hear a group of men yelling inside of his roommate's bedroom.

Inside the home at the time were Lopez's four adult roommates and three young children.

"He have the gun. He said, 'Yo, I need the money.' But he said it in Spanish. I need dinero, give me your dinero," Lopez said.

That's when he said the suspects opened his bedroom door and pointed a gun his way. Lopez said he gave up his cash quickly.

But one of his roommates resisted and was pistol whipped by one of the men. He was transported to a local hospital and released hours later.

In all, the suspects took off with $1,500 in cash and cell phones.

When they got outside, they approached a man sitting in a green Ford Focus, smashed the window and pulled the man out before taking off with the car, police said.

Each of the residents say they didn't recognize the suspects.

"I've never seen him. I don't know what happened," Lopez said.

The stolen car is a green 2001 Ford Focus with Tennessee License plates.
