Tampa Police have arrested a 15-year-old student and a 16-year-old student and charged them with making verbal threats and false reports.

  • Arrested students from Middleton, Robinson high schools
  • Each charged with making false report concerning use of firearm
  • Police chief, superintendent say students will be held responsible for threats

The 15-year-old student was arrested Monday at Middleton High School. He had been suspended but was on the campus, according to police, and he made an expletive-filled statement about committing a school shooting.

Police said his mother called and cooperated with the investigation. The teen was charged with making a false report concerning the use of a firearm in a violent matter.

The 16-year-old was arrested Tuesday in connection with what police called a "classroom incident the previous day at Robinson High School."

Police said he had a disagreement with his teacher about a grade and said he would "shoot up the school" if the grade wasn't changed. He was also charged with making a false report concerning the use of a firearm in a violent manner.

In both cases, investigators said it did not appear the students had firearms to carry out the threats.

Tampa Police Chief Brian Dugan and School Superintendent Jeff Eakins have said students will be held accountable for making irresponsible or threatening statements.
