Pasco County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a plane crash off Old Lakeland Highway in Dade City.

  • 911 call received around 2:15 p.m.
  • Single engine bi-plane found in a ditch
  • Pilot declined medical attention, passenger had minor cuts

Authorites said Pasco Fire Rescue received a 911 call in connection with an aircraft emergency around 2:15 p.m. on Chancey Road at County Road 54.

When firefighters arrived on the scene, they found the plane, a single engine two-seat bi-plane, in a ditch with two passengers laying on the ground.

The pilot reported that he was traveling from Leesburg to Zephyrhills when he experienced engine trouble. He attempted to land the plane on Chancey Road when he clipped a traffic light and crashed.

The pilot declined medical attention. The passenger was transported to a local hospital for treatement of minor cuts.

The Pasco County Sheriff's Office has taken over the investigation.
