A sinkhole opened up in an Ocala neighborhood Wednesday night forcing residents to evacuate their homes.

Marion County Fire Rescue says they believe a water main break caused the sinkhole to open up.

The 20 feet by 50 feet sinkhole opened up in front of a home on SW 83rd Avenue Wednesday night in the Oak Run neighborhood which is west of Interstate 75.

Several homes were evacuated as a precaution.

Marion County Utilities and Sumter Electric Cooperative (SECO) shut off water and power to the area while crews try to get the hole stabilized.
