It’s a special night for one 16-year-old race fan - a car she helped design will take the track at the Coke Zero 400 in Daytona.

  • Ragan will race in a car with Randall's design representing Shriner's

Hailey Randall has spent her entire life in and out of hospitals, and has been working  to overcome a leg deformity she was born with. She's been a patient at Shriner's Hospital in Minneapolis since she was nine months old, and at 16, she's already undergone 12 surgeries.

It was during a stay at Shriners that she won the "Healing Power of Love" contest for her design of a NASCAR paint scheme for driver David Ragan's No. 23 BK Racing Toyota Camry, which will run in the Coke Zero 400 at Daytona International Speedway over July 4th weekend.

"To have a part in the race car I'll be racing tonight, it's going to be a great feeling for her to see that green flag and certainly for me to drive the car," said Ragan, who won previously the race in 2011.

Ragan’s also racing to bring awareness about the hospital, and how it helps children like Randall.

"What the patients go through at Shriner's Hospital for Children is remarkable, and it gives me a lot of confidence going out and working hard and racing for them," said Ragan.

"I'm really thankful for [Shriner's] because if it weren't for them I wouldn't be how I am today," said Randall.

Randall is hoping and rooting for Ragan to take home a win.

"That would just make the win or a good run even that much more special," said Ragan.
